Breakthrough to Nursing Representatives

The idea of the project is for me, the Breakthrough to Nursing Director (BTND) for the UtSNA, to implement having a breakthrough to nursing representative for every school chapter that is a part of the UtSNA. UtSNA is the Utah Student Nursing association. The role of a BTND is to help pre-nursing students transition into nursing programs of throughout the state. We also help schools promote their programs and help provide adequate information to students who are interested in pursuing nursing education. The more dynamic of leaders working on helping pre-nursing students, the greater success we will have with bridging the gap between pre-nursing students and nursing students.
Larger Purpose:
The purpose of my project is to help the UtSNA and the SNA of school chapters grow together and closer. By implementing a BTN representative at every school, the gap between pre-nursing students and nursing students will decrease because schools will be able to have someone in place who can provide their pre-nursing students more adequate and efficient information while also allowing me and future BTND to focus on a state level and work on bridging the gap from the state level to the national level.
Estimated Timeline:
-Start date: October 31, 2017
-Letter construction: 5 hours. This will include writing the first rough draft of the letter as well as having it proofread by the UtSNA board and making any changes they suggest.
-Constructing trainings: 10 hours. This is variant depending on what the UtSNA board wants included in the training, what trainings are requested by the school chapters and what training I will receive that I find pertinent to use in the trainings I give.
-Training offered at the UtSNA convention: 30 minutes; this is short because it will be during a breakout session. This may change depending on what the board decides as a whole. We may do more formal trainings for the school chapters and then I will be able to give a longer training if necessary.
-Constructing proposal for bylaws: I estimate this will take around 5 hours as well. I will need to get the proposal passed by the board in order for it to be presented at the UtSNA legislative meetings at the convention. I will also be working with the UtSNA board in proofreading and making sure the proposal meets all the requirements for a bylaw.
-Communicating with the UtSNA and schools: 15 hours. This will take the largest chunk of time because the UtSNA board meets bi weekly, during those meetings I will update the board on my project and work on planning the training with them. I will also work with the Leaders who are over the school chapters to communicate with the school chapters about the plan and answer and questions, address any concerns the schools might have with the implementation.
-Ongoing assessment post implementation: I plan to spend a minimum of 10 hours after the initial implementation takes place working with the UtSNA board, the future BTND, and school chapters in working out any kinks and helping promote fluidity with the Breakthrough to nursing team.
-End date: While ideally this will be on going, I will be done with my term on February 10, 2018 and hope to have the details worked out by then.
Budget
-Time cost: 40 hours which will include writing the letter, having the letter edited and re-writing the letter, communicating with the UtSNA board, communicating with school chapters of SNA, preparing trainings that I will present at the UtSNA annual convention, trainings that I will attend in order to enhance my knowledge of the position and better leader a group of leaders. This will also include follow up after the implementation takes place. I will continue to interact with the new BTN representatives as well as the future BTND who will tentatively take my place next term. Travel time also is included in this estimate.
-Financial cost: The only cost financially I should have will be travel cost for the UtSNA annual convention as well as any trainings I may need to attend. The estimated cost for travel will be $100.

Pre-Project Reflection:
I am very excited for this project. I am eager to see it happen to help the UtSNA advance and grow as a community. I remember being a pre-nursing student and not knowing what to do, if this project is successful it will help current and future pre-nursing student across the state. That is the purpose of my position as the Breakthrough to Nursing Director.
Post-Project Reflection:
I am so thankful for all that I learned from this project. It challenged me, pushed me, and taught me so much about leadership and working with others. I am excited to serve as the President for the Utah Student Nurses Association for the 2018-2019 term. My role as the Breakthrough to Nursing Director helped prepare me for my role as President.
